Risky Email Attachments
While most email attachments are innocuous, you should always be wary of any unsolicited or unexpected attachments from someone you do not know. This is especially the case if the types of files are executable (.exe), batch (.bat), data (.dat), or command (.cmd) types that could be harmful to your computer.
These types of files can be used by legitimate companies to install software, but they can also be used by malicious parties to install malware or collect data about your computer. As a general rule, you should never open these kinds of attachments.
Many email providers automatically block these kinds of attachments as spam. If you are sending these kinds of files from your EarthLink email, EarthLink cannot guarantee they will be delivered as we cannot control third parties blocking them as spam. If your job requires you to share these kinds of files, it is recommended you use a secure file transfer solution to share them rather than sending them by email.
