Near a window, plug your device into an available power outlet. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the device. Watch for the 4G or 5G LED light to turn solid green. This can take about 3-5 minutes.

Step 2: Enjoy Your Internet

Once your device is activated, you'll find your WiFi network name and password on the bottom of your device.

We recommend changing the network name and password for additional security via the EarthLink Portal.

Plus, you can move the device around your home to test spots with the strongest signal.

Managing Your Device

If you’re technically savvy and want to customize your network name (SSID) and password, follow the steps below. This step is optional and intended for advanced users—your device will work with the default settings, so you’re not required to make these changes.
  1. Connect to the device using a PC via WiFi or the device’s LAN port.
  2. Open a web browser and enter http://172.30.55.1 in the address bar.
  3. Enter the username and password when prompted:
    1. Username: root
    2. Password: [located on your device]
  4. Click “Login”—the default home page will appear.
From here, you can navigate to the wireless settings to personalize your network.

WiFi Configuration

In the WiFi section, under “WiFi Basic Settings” (on the left-hand menu panel), you can modify the default SSID and Password. This step is optional—your device will work as expected with the default setup. Changes to SSID and Password can also be done in the EarthLink Portal.

You can restore the device to factory defaults by clicking on the “Reset” button. Take special care when restoring factory defaults, as you will lose any custom settings and/or configuration changes made.

To reboot your device, navigate to the “System” tab on the left-hand menu panel and click “Perform Reboot”.

Troubleshooting

My computer cannot connect to the EL5000 device.
  • Check if the LED lights are on. If not, check the power cord and make sure it’s connected properly. Also verify that the power supply is available.
  • If the device’s LEDs are off, but the power cord and ethernet cable are connected properly and there is a power supply, then the power adapter is likely damaged.
  • If the Power and WiFi LEDs are the only lights on, move the router to different areas of the dwelling to latch to a signal (highest floor, near a window).
My computer cannot acquire the device’s IP.
  • To release and renew the correct IP address, please unplug the ethernet cable from the computer and wait for about 5 seconds, then connect it again. You can also disconnect the device from the Wi-Fi and reconnect again.
I forgot the login password and want to reset the unit to factory default.
  • Press and hold the Reset button on the back of the device for approximately 10 seconds or until the LEDs stop flashing. The unit will reset and reboot. Please wait until the unit finishes rebooting to regain access to the device web portal using default login credentials.
