Did you Know?
This page provides updates on upcoming and recent changes to EarthLink WebMail. You can visit this page by clicking on the Did You Know link in EarthLink WebMail.
Experiencing Errors in WebMail?
WebMail periodically will log you out of your email when it has not been used for a period of extended time. This process is done to keep your account secure. Most web browsers will let you know you have been logged out of WebMail by returning you to the login screen. However, some browsers may remain on the last item you were looking at and not properly refresh when you are logged out. If you are experiencing odd behavior or errors log out of WebMail and sign in again before doing any other troubleshooting. This will fix any issues caused by a session timeout.
Account Security Settings
You can edit your EarthLink email account security settings in WebMail by clicking on the Preferences link (top right of the page) and then the Account Security tab. From here you can turn on or off Multi-Factor Authentication and change your email address password. If you are logged in with your Primary EarthLink email address, you an select any of your secondary email addresses from the drop down menu at the top of the page if you would like to make changes to those emails as well.
Authenticator App Support Added
You can now add
your favorite Authenticator as a means of Mult-Factor Authentication when
logging into WebMail or MyAccount. Use your favorite Authenticator app such as
Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator to keep your EarthLink Email
safter than ever.
To access the
Authenticator Setup, log into WebMail, click on Preferences and go to the
Account security tab. Turn on
Authenticate With App and follow the directions to setup your app of choice,
then just click Save to activate.

Once activated, you
will need to enter the code shown in your Authenticator app for that account
every time you login to WebMail.
Email Forwarding Settings Changes
We have made a
few minor changes to Email Forwarding to help protect your account. Found in WebMail, Preferences, and under the
General Tab, you can turn on Forwarding by clicking the On option. You will then need to enter an email address
to forward to and click the Enable Forwarding button. If you would like to keep a copy of forwarded
email in that address’ Inbox as well, click the Keep Sent Copy.

Once you click
the Save option, we will send a Text Message to the phone number on your
account to verify your identity in order to protect your account.
Enter the pin number you receive
via text message to confirm you changes and activate Email Forwarding.
Manage Multiple Email Addresses’ Security Settings
When logged in
with your primary email address, you can now manage Account Security settings
for all your secondary addresses under the Preferences - Account Security
tab. Just use the drop down to select
the address you want to see. You must be
logged in with your Primary email address to access this feature in WebMail or
MyAccount.
Auto Save to Draft
EarthLink WebMail now rolling out an option to automatically save a draft of the message you are typing so you do not lose your work. The Auto Save to Draft process makes a copy of your unsent message once every 10 minutes and saves it to the Draft folder. Should you be disconnected, all you will need to do is sign back into WebMail and click the compose button or go to the Drafts folder to restore your progress.
This feature will be rolled out to all customers over the course of April and May 2023. Auto Save will be turned on by default, but if you want to disable it, you can simply go to Preferences, Sending & Replying, and choose the Off option under Auto-Save.
Account Security - Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
You
can now setup Multi-Factor Authentication and change your password directly
from WebMail using the new Account Security tab under Preferences. EarthLink MFA allows for Mobile Phone Verification via SMS/Text message, Security Questions or Mobile App Authenticator (highly recommended option). Simply browse to the Account Security page, turn on Multi-Factor Authentiation and select the option you want to use. You will be asked to go through a few steps such as verifying your mobile phone or setting up an authenticator app (you can use many authenticator apps for this purpose) to complete your MFA setup.
Change
Password
You
may now use the Account Security question to update your email password. Simply
confirm your Current Password and then enter in and confirm the New Password
and save. This change is only for the
email address you are currently logged into in WebMail.
EarthLink WebMail will soon be releasing an update to
WebMail that will verify email addresses in the To, CC, or BCC fields are
correctly formatted before sending. This will prevent errors that can occur
when sending an email with an incorrectly formatted email address.
· Good Addresses will be enclosed in a white
background box.
· Incorrectly formatted addresses will be enclosed
in a red background box.
Incorrectly formatted emails will need to be corrected
before the email can be sent.
Attempting
to send an email before correcting the addresses will result in a sending error
asking you to correct the address before sending.
To correct an address, simply double click the red entry,
update the email address and then click Enter.
Once the address is corrected, you can send your email.
Retry-Send for EarthLink WebMail
When you send an email, there is a connection process that
happens between the sending email server (EarthLink) and the receiving
server. For many reasons, this
connection can sometimes be temporarily delayed. Traditionally, when this happened, while
using EarthLink WebMail, you would receive an error message in WebMail stating
it was unable to send your message and asking you to save the message to your
drafts to try sending again later.
With Retry-Send, EarthLink will now hold on to your sent
email and attempt to send it with no more interaction needed from you. The only requirement is that you keep your
browser open on the WebMail page till the message sends successfully. You will
briefly see the following message and then a spinning icon in the middle of the
page while WebMail attempts to resend your email.

Once the message has sent, you can continue to use WebMail
normally.
Hold Shift to select Multiple Consecutive Emails
When selecting multiple emails, you can now hold down the
Shift key on your keyboard to select multiple consecutive messages. Simply check the box next to the first email
and then hold down your Shift key when you select the next box further
down. All messages between the two
points will be checked automatically.
Select the first message by clicking the box next to it.

Hold down Shift and click the last box you want and all
messages between will automatically be checked
Email Forwarding Verification
Email forwarding will now require verification either
through a text message to your mobile device on file or via a reCAPTCHA
confirmation process. This change is
being introduced to provide extra security to protect your account from
malicious use.
When enabling, disabling, or making any changes to Email Forwarding in WebMail,
you will receive a prompt, after clicking Save, to send a verification code to
your mobile device. This code will
contain a PIN that you will need to enter into WebMail in order to access the
Email Forwarding settings. If you do not
have a Mobile/Cell device on file, you will receive a reCAPTCHA prompt that you
will need to complete.
To Send the Code, click the Send Code button.
You will then have two minutes to input the PIN number sent
to your mobile device. If you are not
able to input the PIN within two minutes, you can click the Resend SMS button
to have a new PIN sent to you.
Once the PIN is accepted, your changes will be saved.
