Using WS_FTP
This walk-thru on how
to use WS_FTP32 version 95.06.18 for Windows 95, which you can
download here. If you
are using a differnt version, these instructions may slightly
vary.
Setting up WS_FTP and
Uploading Files
When you first open your WS_FTP
program you will see a Session Profile window similar to the one
below(depending on which version you are using):

- Fill in all of the fields as
shown above, replacing WebSite with whatever
name you want to give this Session Profile, and replacing
username with your FTP username. In the Password
field, enter your FTP password(same as your email
password).
You can click the Save
Password box if you would like to have the
program save your password. This way the next time you
access the site with this program, you will not need to
enter the password again.
- Save your Session Profile by
clicking on the Save button.
Next time you open this
program, just look under the Profile Name field for your
Session Profile, and it will bring up all of the
information you saved under your Session Profile.
- Click on the OK
button and this will connect you to your site(assuming
you have entered all of the correct information). When
you are connected to your site you will see a window
similar to the one below:

This window
is separated into two sides. The left side(Local System)
is your Hard Drive and the right side(Remote System) is
your Web site directory on our server.
The top
section of each side shows the folder/directory you are
in. The section right below that shows you a list of
folders/directories within that folder/directory. The
bottom section displays the files contained within that
folder/directory.
To begin
uploading your files, you will first need to browse the
Local System until you are in the folder which contains
the files you want to transfer to your Web site.
Once you find

files, or any other binary files, make sure you select
the Binary option.
Now you are
just a few clicks away. To begin, left click on the file
on the Local System that you wish to upload. When that
file is highlighted, click on the arrow (in the middle of
the window) that is pointing to the right side. Once the
file has been uploaded, you should see it on the Remote
System side.
You can
upload multiple files at a time by holding down the CRTL
key and clicking on the files you wish to upload. Once
all of the files you wish to upload are highlighted,
click on the arrow pointing to the right. Keep in mind
that if you are uploading more than one file at a time,
they should all be the same format. Stay away from
uploading HTML files with image files since they need to
be uploaded in different formats.
