Restricting Access to Your Web Site

Access Restriction is password protecting a subdirectory or a folder of your Web site. It allows you to assign user names and passwords to individuals that you want to give access to a particular subdirectory or folder of your web site.

Below are the steps for password protecting a subdirectory or folder of your web site followed by a list of the most common problems encountered when implementing access restriction. We also include the possible causes of the problems and how to resolve them.

You will need to create two text files, one called .htaccess and the other called .htpasswd.

Creating the files
